Land of the Thousand Lakes

Finland is extremely sparsely populated, leaving plenty of breathing space for beautiful nature. The low country is covered by dense boreal forests, which seem to open up exclusively for the thousands upon thousands of lakes, usually hosting one or two or a hundred islands, waiting to be approached by city-dwellers seeking a peaceful environment in which they can turn off their cell phones momentarily. Well... maybe not. The hard working Finns have a knack for design and high-tech, and to prove it, there are more active cell phone subscriptions in Finland than there are inhabitants—a noticeable fact on the streets of Helsinki. However, one cannot accuse the Finns of not knowing how to relax, as the phones are replaced by whips of birch and bottles of schnapps in the sauna. Visitors will usually have to admit a quick defeat in a sit-off against the well-adapted natives, but could there be a more suitable place for cooling down than in one of Finland’s thousand lakes?
